The Story of the Shepherd Boy

At the center of the mesmerizing rolling hills, resided a boy named Shepherd. His existence was essentially pure, and unsophisticated. His main role was to tend to his herd of sheep.

Their gentle baas and the whispering of the breezes through the solo tree on the peak were his constant co-dwellers. Day in day, looking out for his responsibilities imbued in him a notion of quiet fulfillment.

Yet, there were at times moments of loneliness, when the shepherd boy would pine for fellowship. During one such occasion because of sheer monotony, the shepherd boy conceived a naughty plot.

Stories of predators hunting on sheep had been around for a while in the hamlet. So, the boy opted to exploit this fear and played a joke on the villagers.

One day he dashed into the village screaming “Wolf! A wolf is attacking my sheep!” The terrified villagers rushed up the hills to help but saw no beast.

The boy laughed at the puzzle on their faces. This game laughed for a couple of more days. However, one day, a real wolf did charge at the flock. The shepherd boy ran for aid screaming click here “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one showed up.

Frustrated and alone, the boy battled against the wolf but managed to rescue only few of his flock. Devastated, he returned to the village only to receive a reprimand on honesty and the repercussions of false alarms.

His tale of this shepherd boy has been passed down generations as a mediaeval parable to teaching the value of honesty, the consequences of lying and the risks of false alarms. Moreover, it highlights how trust once violated, is difficult to earn back. It's a story as relevant today as it was anciently.
